OFFENSE
She says: I am a firm believer in the philosophy "defense wins games," but the offense needs to score some points! At quarterback, Matt Moore is not playing awful, but he is not leading the team to points either. I actually feel bad for Moore, being a senior quarterback is not an enviable position. I am reminded of the 2001 season and the chants for freshman Derek Anderson that began midway through the season when Jonathan Smith had struggled, and then once again in 2004, when Anderson himself was on the receiving end of the student section barrage. At the end of the day, the quarterback is the team general and he will either be the goat or receive all of the glory.
We still should be more productive on offense and I am left scratching my head as to why this team isn't putting up more points. Yvenson Bernard is a productive back, but needs to hang on to the ball in the red zone. I am still left wondering where Clinton Polk's 10-12 touches a game are.
At receiver, Sammie Stroughter is starting to separate himself as the go-to guy in the line-up. Stroughter ended the day with six receptions for 124 yards (more than half the Beavers total passing yards), coupled with 100 punt return yards, Stroughter had a great day. Brandon Powers, Anthony Wheat-Brown, and Ruben Jackson have the ability to be playmakers as well, but need to work on the little things that will help them separate themselves from the defenders.
I don't want to get in the middle of any "quarterback controversy," but there were several times during the Washington State game that I thought we could have seen Sean Canfield and some of the "meaningful reps" we have been hearing about. If nothing else, Canfield's presence may have sparked something. If not it would have quieted the fans sitting in section 10 holding up the 'CANFIELD' sign. I'm left with grading the offense a D for the WSU game. I feel harsh doing so, but if C is average, then I cannot justify giving a unit that scored zero points an average grade.
SHE SAYS - GRADE: D
