Hoya Targets Star in Hoop Challenge
July 3, 2006 - Georgetown's John Thompson III and his staff have been aggressive and successful in recruiting, during their two plus year tenure on the Hilltop. As a result of their efforts on the recruiting trail and on the floor, G'town is being listed by a significant number of high profile high school student-athletes.
During Saturday's Nike Pro City Summer Hoop Challenge, Boo Williams Summer League (BWSL) defeated Triple Threat 73-59. Besides seeing talented young ball players generally, the beauty of the game, from a Hoya Nation standpoint, was the ability to see '07 target Chris Wright, along with possible '08 recruits Chris Braswell and Ed Davis showcase their skills.
Boo William's Chris Wright a six foot, 190 pound guard, in a nutshell, showed why he is so highly regarded. While scoring 26 points and earning game MVP honors, Wright displayed an ability to score from deep on the perimeter, attack the rim in half court and fast break scenarios, and find open teammates - particularly on the break via lengthy outlet passes.
One early first half sequence over the course of about two minutes illustrates the breadth of Wright's skill set. With Boo Williams leading 38-25, Wright came down court, and with no defender stopping the ball, easily got into the lane, finding his teammate Patrick Patterson for an easy lay up in the process. On the next possession, Chris again working in an open court scenario, attacked the rim, this time drawing a foul (he would convert both charity stripe opportunities).
Immediately following that exhibition of offensive aggressiveness, in a half court set Wright converted a nifty reverse layup, and after a teammate hit sank two free throws on the next possession, returned to the offensive end of the floor, where he calmly sank a long three pointer.
