Hawkeyes add late 2006 commitment

HawkeyeReport.com The Iowa Hawkeyes added another player to their incoming freshman class this week, as Ohio native Derrell Johnson decided to accept a scholarship offer to play for head coach Kirk Ferentz. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete came to his decision after visiting Iowa and Michigan in the past week.
Johnson, who played at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown this past year, was a late academic qualifier, which is why he remained unsigned this spring.
During the 2005 season, Johnson only played half of the year due to a broken fibula, but still earned all-Ohio honors in Division IV. While he played quarterback at the high school level, he likely projects as a wide receiver and returner in college.
