New offer shakes up McNeil's favorites
Auburn and Alabama have shared the lead for Mobile, Ala., Davidson safety Michael McNeil over the past month but that all changed a couple of days ago when the 6-foot-2, 195-pounder picked up an offer from Florida State.
The offer came shortly after FSU defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews saw McNeil during a Davidson spring practice.
"Coach Andrews was there basically the entire time watching us practice," said McNeil. "He couldn't talk to us then but he called me after practice. He said I was the first recruit he had called.
"He told me he liked everything he saw and I'm the type of safety he's looking for - big, tall and rangy. He offered me a scholarship and said they would send a written one in the mail. He said, 'I know we've been your favorite growing up, we just need to make sure we're still your favorite team when Signing Day rolls around.'"
