Recruiting picks up for Matthews
Thanks to Jimmy Clausen and Marc Tyler, Oaks Christian School in Southern California has been a top target for college football coaches across the country. Playing with two of the nation's top prospects comes with fringe benefits, which linebacker Casey Matthews has enjoyed.
Matthews, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound defender, has picked up five early scholarship offers and interest from several other major programs. Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Tennessee and Utah have all offered scholarships.
"It's nice to get the early offers," he said. "It takes the relief off."
Matthews has also drawn the interest of all the teams in the PAC-10 as well as Nebraska, Texas A&M, Northwestern and several others including Notre Dame.
