Offense stays grounded
During a ceremony before Saturday's annual Garnet and Gold game, Florida State University President T.K.Wetherell told the announced crowd of 11,200 to "enjoy the running game."
Lawrence Timmons, Buster Davis and company didn't need the advanced warning, but it certainly didn't hurt their effort.
With the Seminoles' offensive coaches determined to pound the ball on the ground Saturday the way they have all spring, the defense loaded up near the line of scrimmage and made them pay. Over and over again.
The four tailbacks that played Saturday -- Antone Smith, Russell Ball, Jamaal Edwards and walk-on Pat Davis -- combined to rush for 43 yards on 24 carries. (Senior Lorenzo Booker was given the day off so that the coaches could watch the younger backs.)
When you factor in sacks and one carry by receiver Greg Carr, the Seminoles' entire rushing offense accounted for minus-1 yard on 30 attempts.
