Driven by honor
AUBURN | Chris Davis is a tough kid from inner city Birmingham and it's evident in his style of play.
Notice him out on the field and you'll see someone who plays with an extra urge -- someone who plays like he has something to prove.
That's because he does.
"I play for a whole lot of people instead of (myself)," Davis said. "I've got to provide for my family and, through this game, I've got a good chance of doing that. That's why I go out every Saturday and play like I do."
Davis' sense of family is not only seen in the way he plays, but also on the back of his jersey. This year, he decided to wear his full name in "C. Davis Jr." on his shoulders.
"My mama told me when I got to college I kind of forgot my name," Davis said when asked what inspired the change.
Thus far, he's been making his family proud.
Davis was arguably Auburn's best defender through the first two games of the season, leading the team with 13 tackles.However, an ankle injury against Arkansas State caused him to be held out of the lineup for the Mississippi State and LSU games.
