Pogue: A seasoned ambassador
AUBURN -- Al Pogue was at the top of the food chain among Alabama high school coaches in 2010.
As the head coach of 6A Carver High School in Montgomery, Pogue had led the Wolverines to their first-ever undefeated season in 2008 and a 31-7 record overall from 2008-10.
Then he left the top and started at the bottom, becoming Auburn's offensive quality-control coach in 2011. A stark contrast from the one calling the shots, but Pogue didn't hesitate.
"To be at a university like this and to be in the SEC, it really wasn't a decision," Pogue said. "It was just a when-can-I-start kind of deal. It's Auburn. How can I tell Auburn no?"
After his future status as a part of Auburn's coaching staff became uncertain after Gene Chizik's dismissal, Pogue didn't pout.
