Going into the 2012 season, the goal you heard the most from within Auburn fandom was, "improvement."

Just what "improvement" meant depended on the observer. Those who wanted or anticipated more wins over 2011's eight are already looking out of luck. Others who'd looked for "improvement" to mean "don't get blown out" had their hopes dashed in Starkville, and I feel safe in guessing they'd expected more of the same against highly-ranked and heavily-favored LSU.

What they got instead was something virtually no one anticipated: an old-school defensive battle and a two-point game....
