Jones gains valuable experience on nickel defense
EAST LANSING - True freshman linebacker Taiwan Jones may not be a regular member of Michigan State's nickel defense. But the snaps that Jones took at Nebraska and against Minnesota last weekend should boost the development of the 6-foot-1 234-pounder from New Baltimore (Mich.) Anchor Bay.
"It will be a great period of growth, I think, this week because he got to play a lot of plays," said Spartan head coach Mark Dantonio. "It is different, it is different when you are playing in a game like this and things are going very quickly and making a mistake, making a play, or having the opportunity to make a play counts. I am sure he grew up a little bit and I am sure Kyler (Elsworth) did as well. We are playing a lot of guys at the linebacker position because we have a lot guys out. Hopefully, they will be back."
