The Ohio State coaching staff has been working the state of Florida hard this off-season, hoping to land a few more top prospects from one of the nation's richest recruiting grounds. The latest prospect from the Sunshine State to land an offer is Miami (Fla.) Northwestern wide receiver Amari Cooper. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect was informed of the offer on Thursday.
"I was so happy," said Cooper of his reaction to the Ohio State offer. "Ohio State is a big time school, I just feel blessed."
The offer from Ohio State comes in the midst of an impressive spring for Cooper who is turning a lot of heads on the 7-on-7 circuit.
"Things are going great right now," he explained. "I'm just doing what I can to show that I'm one of the top players and to show people what I can do. Everything is going well for me right now and I just want to keep building off of this."
The offer from the Buckeyes was Cooper's sixth so far, adding to previous offers from FIU, UCF, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Western Michigan. With numerous other programs showing interest, Cooper's offer total could see a substantial increase sooner rather than later.
"Miami, Florida State, Vanderbilt, and Florida," Cooper said, when asked which other schools were showing interest.
Recently Cooper had a chance to take unofficial visits to a pair of those schools.
"I went to Florida State's junior day and also UM," Cooper explained. "They were good, I liked both of them. I really learned a lot about Florida State. It was a big campus and I liked the school."
After an injury plagued junior season, Cooper is just relieved that the offers are starting to come in.
"I knew I was going to get them at some point," he said. "It's just the timing wasn't what I expected."
Growing up Cooper says he was a big Miami (FL) fan and while he still likes and follows the Hurricanes, right now there are a handful of schools that sit atop his list.
"Growing up my favorite school was UM," Cooper explained. "Out of the schools that have offered I really like Ohio State. If I go there I know that I would have a good chance of winning a national championship. The top schools that I want to be recruited by are Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn, Miami (FL), and Florida State."
