Shell talks UA official
Charleston (SC) Goose Creek offensive tackle Brandon Shell was among a select group of highly touted prospects visiting Alabama last weekend. Unlike the rest of those Crimson Tide targets, however, Shell is already committed to another school, the University of South Carolina. Was Shell's visit to the Capstone enough to potentially change his mind?
"It was a very nice visit. We knew that going into it because we have met Coach Saban and Coach Burns a number of times before and knew they did things first class," said Shell's mother, Charron. "I thought they did a really nice job with the presentation of the layout of the school, the academic help and the student support. I thought everything was pretty exceptional.
"Coach Saban is a pretty direct guy which we appreciate. It isn't always enjoyable talking with college coaches when you know they aren't being straight-forward with you, but we have never had that problem with Alabama."
Shell has been relatively quiet throughout the recruiting process, according to his mother, because he isn't the type that enjoys the spotlight that comes with a dramatic recruiting race.
"Brandon doesn't really enjoy the recruiting process, but he wanted to take some visits and give some other schools a second look. We have talked about it briefly and I think he is going to stay put with his South Carolina commitment. He is comfortable there, and it is close to home. It isn't a knock against Alabama at all because they are first class, but I think Brandon is just happy staying in-state. He has friends on the South Carolina team and with some of the prospects."
Shell is rated the nation's No. 8 offensive tackle prospect and is a member of the Rivals100.
