Official visit weekend kicks-off for Army
This weekend kicks-off the first in depth official visit weekend for the Army Black Knights.
There will be approximately 10 prospects making their way to the West Point campus. Some names are familiar like safety Duran Workman who is already committed to the Black Knights, receiver Justin Newman who a Army lean, dual-threat QB AJ Schurr, along with Pennsylvania QB prospect Sean Quarterman.
Some new names to popup and who are expected to make their official visit journey starting Friday are 6-foot-5, 295 pound offensive lineman prospect Matt Hugenberg, Dillon Burdette, Tony Giovannelli and Addison Holstein.
A new twist to this year's official visit marks the first time that players from the prep school will be integrated into this weekend's and forthcoming visits.
Clearly this serves a few purposes. Key guys from the players from the USMAPS are making their way to their future home; to ensures that the staff is able reinforce what the program is all about. Other colleges still actively recruit these prospects and this venue allows for players like Trenton Turrentine and Ryan Powis to know where they may fit into the future plans. It also offers an opportunity for prospects that are currently considering Army to meet first hand players who are just one year removed from the high school to college recruiting cycle to share their Army prep experience.
Turrentine is a talented back who could add as much value to the running game as a freshman as fullbackJared Hassin did during his first stint this season.
Like Turrentine, Powis should be able to add immediate depth on the offensive line and push for real time at the vacancy at center.
