State pops the Colonels, 67-58
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Playing their third game in as many days did not seem to phase Mississippi State Monday night.
The Bulldogs showed little fatigue as four starters exceeded 30 minutes of playing time in a 67-58 win over Nicholls State.
"(Nicholls State) is a very capable and experienced team," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury/ "We're just happy to escape. You're trying to survive a team where you know it's a Super Bowl for them every time they go into an SEC arena. But for the most part I thought our kids stayed in control most of the night and we responded the one time they made that run at us."
MSU (6-2) shot 51.1-percent for the night as Ravern Johnson once again led all scorers with 23 points. Johnson shot 8-of-14 from the floor including five treys in 37 minutes on the floor.
"Well we just wanted to come out and execute our game plan," Johnson said. "They have some good role players on their team, and we did a good job of containing those guys. We put in some plays to get the ball to our big guys and we executed well."
Brian Bryant had the best game of his young Bulldog career scoring 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting and also led the team in rebounding with seven.
