Johnstone back from Eugene
Tyler Johnstone has been committed to the Oregon Ducks since July 2010, but verbally committed recruits take their official visit to their chosen school just like everybody else. Duck Sports Authority spoke with the nation's 31st ranked offensive tackle to get his thoughts on the visit.
The trip got off to a slow start with weather in San Francisco delaying his flight. Arriving in Eugene a little after 5:00pm, things started getting better right away.
"On Friday I got to get reintroduced to all the coaches," Johnstone said. "I spent time talking with position coach Steve Greatwood. I got to do all the pre-game stuff, the team meetings and the OL meetings. I got introduced to the team and we ate a huge dinner."
The 6-foot-6, 260 pound Chandler, Arizona standout compared pre-game meetings at Hamilton High School versus those observed during his visit.
"The meetings were similar to ours at Hamilton but definitely more thorough. We usually have meetings the morning before so if the game is on Friday we'll have them Thursday morning. But we just have one meeting with our position group for maybe twenty minutes. They have three thirty minute meetings going over a bunch of different stuff. They really go over everything. They are thorough and I was impressed by them."
Though looking to redshirt for the 2010 season, San Francisco Community College graduate Ryan Clanton found a way to help the team by helping take care of one of their guests.
"Ryan Clanton was my host," said Johnstone. "He was a great guy, real friendly. He took me out both nights. I didn't have much to wear so he lent me a couple shirts so I didn't look busted. He was a great guy."
