Johnson hoping for more offers
Mendenhall's Trae Johnson is one of the top linebacker prospects in Mississippi.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pounder has already picked up one instate scholarship offer and is hoping to earn more options during his senior season.
Southern Miss offered Johnson late in the spring semester but so far is the only one to do so.
"I was tripping because I've dreamed since I was in junior high about playing D-1," Johnson said of his first scholarship offer. "I was ecstatic."
Johnson's services are also being pursued by Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
"Everybody is pretty close to offering," Johnson said. "They want to see that last little bit of film. They just want to see me make those plays and those kill shots."
But Johnson will have to speed up the process on making a decision. He projects to graduate in December which may bode well for the Golden Eagles.
