Riddick commits to CSU
The Colorado State Rams picked up a commitment over the weekend from Abilene (Tex.) running back Davon Riddick. The 6-foot, 200-pound Riddick chose Colorado State over an offer from Wyoming and interest from Texas Christian and UTEP.
Last year Riddick ran for 868 yards on 120 carries (7.2 ypc average) and caught another 14 passes for 200 yards in leading Abilene Cooper High School to a 9-4 record and a trip to the state playoffs.
"I do everything basically," Riddick said. "I am usually one of the fastest players on the field, so I am good at out-running everyone on the field."
Riddick said he told his high school coach on Friday that he would commit to the Rams and his coach did the rest in contacting the CSU staff.
"I committed last Friday," Riddick said. "The coaches (high school coaches) said it would probably be best if I picked somebody this summer, so I told my coach and he called them."
He said his decision came down to the Rams emphasis on running the football.
"They (CSU coaches) said they like to run the ball," Riddick said. "They also talked to me about the schedule and all that, so it seemed kind of interesting."
Riddick said he is undecided on what he will major in and has not visited any schools thus far, but expects to see Fort Collins this fall. He holds a bench press max of 305, a squat of 435 and has run a 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash.
