New Jackets: Jeremiah Attaochu
One of the benefits of adding Al Groh to the Georgia Tech coaching staff beyond his years of defensive expertise was his strong recruiting connections with Maryland and Virginia areas. One of the players the Jackets landed right before signing day was Jeremiah Attaochu from the Washington D.C. area. Attaochu is on campus and ready to get to work as Georgia Tech rebuilds their linebacker core for a 3-4 defense.
"I am really looking forward to getting on the field. I have been working really hard this offseason and studying my plays to get ready for the fall," Attaochu said. "I talked to Coach Groh about every other week since signing day and he gave me stuff to work on. I have been working hard on that trying to get ready for the fall."
Attaochu has added five pounds of muscle since the end of his senior year and now weighs a very lean 228 pounds on his six-foot-three frame. Since Groh recruited Attaochu specifically for this type of defense he may have a leg up on getting on the field compared to some of the other incoming defenders that were holdovers from the previous regime.
"I am really looking forward to the opportunity I have to succeed at Georgia Tech. I want to do it on my own and I know the coaches will give me a chance. I am focused on football and school. I want to be the best player I can be," he said.
Like several of the players from outside the area, Attaochu had a long summer break filled with family and friend events in his hometown. Now he is focused on the task at hand.
My family was all over me before I left home, but I am ready to be with my new Yellow Jacket family," he said. "I am excited and I have been waiting for this all summer. I have been anticipating the moment we put on the pads since last month."
Attaochu will be wearing number 45 this fall and will start out at outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme along with fellow 2010 signee Anthony Williams.
