Mullen's Monday press conference
There is something different about things on the Mississippi State campus this week.
Even first year head football coach Dan Mullen can tell that the Egg Bowl week just has a different feel to it than any other game week on the schedule.
"We're excited," Mullen said. "Obviously this week is a big rivalry game. You can feel the excitement. We are looking at another sold out crowd here. I know our fans are going to be fired up because this game means a lot to them. We have a lot of players on our team from the state of Mississippi, a majority of our roster is so it means a lot to these young guys who are growing up to play in this game. Obviously for our school and our program this is a huge game for us."
Mullen and his staff have changed up the routine for their team this week to stress the importance of how much is riding on this game against Ole Miss. The Bulldogs will see their practice schedule, weight lifting schedule and several other aspects of their week altered.
"We've changed up a bunch of things this week because it's a rivalry game," Mullen said. "We treat the whole week a little bit different. What we will do because there is no school, we will practice a little earlier on Wednesday and Thursday just to get the practices in early and don't have to wait for the school day to end."
Mullen has dove head first into the rivalry commonly referring to the Rebels as the "School up North" on several occasions. During Monday's press conference he did not mention them by any specific name only as "they" or "that team".
